Skookum Flats Trail
|Description:||Skookum Flats is a trail the follows the White River.
Despite the name, the trail is not flat. The ride is
through old grown forest along the river. The trail is
technical with lots of roots, dips, steps, rocks, and
steps. There are several very technical spots that would
be quite a trials feat to ride. There is a suspension
footbridge across the river at one point. On the ride
back on the other side of the river there is a 700 year
old Douglas fir that is more than 9 feet in diameter.
It's a beautiful and difficult ride.
I do the ride as a loop. Go about 6 miles on the Skookum Flats Trail, cross the river, cross the highway, and ride back to the car on the other side of the river. It is an epic ride on a muni. I'm exhausted at the end.
The ride would be 4 hours of drive time and about 5 hours of ride time. It would be an epic day.
I don't know if anyone would want to do such a ride. It would wear you out. If there is a group of people interested we can do the ride. Speak up if this ride sounds interesting and we'll organize it.
Parking at the trailhead will require a Northwest Trail Pass. A day pass is $5 and a year pass is $30. You can get the pass from the Forest Service offices. I have two passes (one expires at the end of July).
If you do a web search on "Skookum Flats" you can find some info on the ride. It's a popular ride.
